P.Skegg at Love Portfolio Request

I really am interested in getting a visit at Love, I've tried for months e-mailing and ringing. Though Mike Husband was more successful than me and got one in second year so I requested that he give me the e-mail address of one of the members that worked there. So hopefully my request being delivered direct to a member there will get more notice than sending one to the company in general.
I thought this may be the last attempt at trying for a visit at Love as I'm reluctant to ring up as I have done before and the woman I spoke to said we only organise portfolio requests over e-mail. So ringing Love seems to be out of the question.

Shape, Portfolio Request

Another e-mail requesting a visit to a Manchester based design studio. Disciplines covered from motion to illustration.

Consumed by Consumption

Here is a fashion film by Warren du Preez and Nick Thornton Jones. I was very impressed with this video and touched upon a subject which is very so much highlighted in todays society.

Focuses very much on the model who is centered on screen. Her body is bare to begin with and slowly and gradually more clothes and make-up is caked upon her representing society's obsession with consumption, mainly with material things. The design and style of the video definitely reflects the subject as the black and white colours begin to deepen giving a more contrasted and harsh look though also looks very edgy and fashionable.

The model ends up looking like a complete freak of nature, her whole body is fabricated and looks slightly scary. There is a close-up of her face which is computerised giving the model very dead looking unsoulful eyes.

I think the video on a whole is trying to represent how ugly certain people look on the inside when they get carried away with their obsession on looking good on the surface. To look good on the outside is alot about feeling good on the inside and I'm not talking about when people say aslong as you have a nice personality thats all that matters because I know for some people including myself that isn't how you feel. If you can't feel content with yourself inside no matter what you buy as soon as the novelty's worn off you'll feel just the same as you did beforehand and in a way that's how this video connected with me.

Catch me if you can

'Catch me if you can' is a superb title sequence. All the imagery just works perfectly together though in a very simple and abstract way. Is definitely where some of my inspiration came for my project. The piece includes a 'line which we follow throughout, taking us through the story, another aspect which I included within my piece and enjoyed working with.

Deubal

Deubal is a Paris based design company, the same company that created the titles for the film 'Catch me if you can'. I love the title sequence from 'Catch me if you can' so looked up Deubal to see others they had created. The same 'Saul Bass' style is incorporated within many of their pieces adapting it to their own signature style.
Here is one of their pieces which is very creative. The composition of each frame is beautiful and works well with only typography and small animated creatures as the only imagery. I think the great aspect within this piece though is how the creatures react and interact with the lettering.

Design by Day Portfolio Request

This is an e-mail I sent to the design studio Design by Day in Manchester, regarding a portfolio visit.
I rang them up earlier this year but seemed to be out of office.

The effect here that is used in the Frasier titles is very similar visually to the beginning part of my video promotion. I hadn't ever seen this before and was brought to my attention through friends. This boosts my confidence in a way as it makes me think that I was thinking in a professional mindset.
