Disney Art

These images were tweeted by one of the Disney pages I follow. Images taken from the Disney Archives.

These images are absolutely beautiful, of concept drawings and storyboard drawings.

This is hopefully one day what I will be doing. As I've mentioned before my strengths lie in drawing so to be able to look at storyboards from absolute classics is breathtaking for me. I find these images so inspiring.

The images from Dumbo second from the top are precious and are masterpieces.

Who's Hungry? by David Ochs

This short film 'Who's Hungry?' is actually quite sinister but the animation and illustration is delicious. Simple yet sketchy looking the characters really 'pop' off the screen even more so as the background seems dis-jointed from them in a way and is very placid. The two contrast wonderfully which what makes the animation absolutely gorgeous. This is childrens illustration but for the enjoyment of adults.

Beautiful Childrens Illustration

I couldn't quite catch the name of this designer because it was all in a different language but I thought I have to put them up here because they are so beautiful. I love the quirky illustration and attention to detail. They are exactly what I think of when I think of Children's illustration. Especially the bottom one as it reads to me as the dream of a little girl, dreaming of unicorns and Princess dresses.

Up and Away

Anyone who has seen the Disney Pixar animated film 'Up' will instantly see the connection between film and photos.

I came across these images thanks to my arrival on Twitter. I'm currently following many Disney and Pixar animators and these images were sent to a Pixar Animator, courtesy of National Geographic Magazine. The Pixar animator posted a link to all these fabulous images.

In the film 'Up' a house is connected to a bunch of balloons which then flies off to an Island. I think maybe National Geographic wanted to see through curiosity and pleasure if this in fact was plausible. And as you can see through these images it was in fact plausible and cannot believe how high in the sky it flew.

I took instant pleasure from these photographs as I'm a huge fan of Disney and Pixar though pushing this aside I then realised how beautiful the photography was. I especially love the saturation and diversity of colour. Low angle shots and wide shots they are gorgeous and all seems so magical and enchanting.

Consumed by Consumption

Here is a fashion film by Warren du Preez and Nick Thornton Jones. I was very impressed with this video and touched upon a subject which is very so much highlighted in todays society.

Focuses very much on the model who is centered on screen. Her body is bare to begin with and slowly and gradually more clothes and make-up is caked upon her representing society's obsession with consumption, mainly with material things. The design and style of the video definitely reflects the subject as the black and white colours begin to deepen giving a more contrasted and harsh look though also looks very edgy and fashionable.

The model ends up looking like a complete freak of nature, her whole body is fabricated and looks slightly scary. There is a close-up of her face which is computerised giving the model very dead looking unsoulful eyes.

I think the video on a whole is trying to represent how ugly certain people look on the inside when they get carried away with their obsession on looking good on the surface. To look good on the outside is alot about feeling good on the inside and I'm not talking about when people say aslong as you have a nice personality thats all that matters because I know for some people including myself that isn't how you feel. If you can't feel content with yourself inside no matter what you buy as soon as the novelty's worn off you'll feel just the same as you did beforehand and in a way that's how this video connected with me.

Khuong Nguyen

By the same photographer of the Christian Louboutin ad campaign I found this fashion photography piece. I thought it was really quirky, original and reminded me of the mad hatters tea party from Alice and Wonderland.
What made me include this piece rather than others is when looking at it I think of a window display. Many of the props used in the piece are suspended from string the model is very stiff like a doll/mannequin. And the bag in the background is nicely suspended so it sits on the display box. This would definitely catch my eye if I walked past.

Christian Louboutin: Fairytales

These were images for the Christian Louboutin fall/winter 2010 campaign created by photographer Khuong Nguyen. The images were based on fairytales such as Alice and Wonderland.
This post features well in my research as I had been researching fairytale inspired fashion and been writing of my ideas on this subject for inspiration for uni projects in my final year.
I love the images portrayed here. Each image is well thought of and detailed they could well be stills of Disney films.

Leanne Marshall: Project Runway

Leanne Marshall was the winner of 'Project Runway' a T.V. programme where many unknown fashion designers compete for their collection to be shown at New York fashion week.
Leanne was my favorite to win. There were many ruffles within her pieces which I love, and they had been accentuated which looked great as the models moved down the runway. Its not as effective looking at a static image though watching them in 'Project Runway' were beautiful. All the garments moved with such ease and flow and were just so pleasant to look at though at the same time exciting.

Mickey Mouse inspired fashion? Yes please!

Except for the tippity top one, as I'm not sure, all other clothes/accessories were created by fashion designer Jeremy Scott. As you can see the line was inspired by the famous Mickey Mouse himself. Though I'm not sure if I would wear Mickey Mouse ears on my head while shopping or on a night out but it sure does look good just to look at.
As anyone who knows me knows I'm obsessed with Walt Disney and at college if I'm not doing a project fashion related it will be Disney related and to see the two come together is a joy for my eyes. There are probably political reasons surrounding the concept though I'm just enjoying the visual.
Mickey Mouse is one of the faces of popular culture so was a great idea to blend this idea within the fashion of today and must be a hit with many girls aged around 17 years to 25 years, as these days taking a trip round the Disney store on a day out shopping is just as much a must as Primark.

William Travilla, Dresses are a girl's best friend!

I began researching into 40's and 50's glamour as inspiration for upcoming projects for my final year of uni. I have always loved the dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in 'Gentlemen prefer Blonde's' in the number 'Diamond's are a girl's best friend'. The designer/costume designer is William Travilla and he created many of Marilyn's clothes. The images I have placed above also represent his talent of fashion illustration. The image of Marilyn in the white dress (worn in 'The Seven Year Itch') is beautiful how he captures the flow and motion he wants the dress to express while its being worn.
The pink dress was obviously created only for Marilyn as he captures her perfectly along with the texture and visual of the dress.

David Downton, Part 2

One of my card designers I found 'David Downton' after researching him I realised he was much more prestigious than I thought. As here he was chosen to illustrate the cover of the 50th anniversary edition of Australian Vogue which I think would definitely be an honour especially after years of the cover being a photographic image. I love how Vogue have chosen a drawing based image for such a special edition. After thinking drawing was being shoved out the window this gives me some hope that drawing is still in fashion as it most definitely is a passion of mine.

New Habits, Rene Gruau

Another designer 'Rene Gruau' I found from looking for a card for my mates 21st. My attention was caught from the use of delicate lines laced together to form a beautiful image.

I later found out that Rene used to fashion illustrate for 'Christian Dior' which was definitely interesting for myself as 'John Galliano' the first fashion designer I took an interest in has been the core designer for 'Dior'.

New Habits, David Downton

I should probably explain the title 'New Habits', when I'm card shopping for peoples birthday cards or what not if I see a selection of cards with beautiful designs or illustrations I take down the designers name and save it in my phone. You never know when the inspiration may come in handy.

Here is a selection of David Downtons work. The image placed at the bottom was the design I found in the shop on a card then after googling his name I found others I was impressed with.

I learnt David Downton is a fashion illustrator which I found interesting. What drew me to his work was the fact it looked very much like the work of one of my favorite fashion illustrators 'Stina Persson' (I have a post of her on my blog).

I love the contrast of the harsh colours against the more subtle ones also each images composition. The top image I found very striking, such strong colours against the black background surprisingly gives the image more focus.

Fashion and Fairytale

After being inspired by the idea of fairies and fantasy I decided to google fairies and fashion and found these images. They are from the fashion magazine Vogue and the fairytale they chose to develop is Thumbelina. I love them they are really quirky which is a quality I love when it comes to design and the whole idea of bringing a traditional fairytale to life in a modern contemporary way is beautiful.

Fairies and Fantasy

Over the summer period I thought I'd love to get back in touch with my drawing side as I love to draw and felt I'd not been doing a lot of it recently.

Having a few days of gorgeous sunshine inspired me to draw and because of the sunshine I thought what better to draw than flowers. As I sat soaking up the sun I remembered I had a few books stashed away from years back on fairies which each represented a flower from every season of the month. For example the image at the far bottom is the Rose fairy. All these books were illustrated Cicley Mary Barker.

Looking through her illustrations of flowers and fairies inspired me to re-create, freehand one of her drawings as seen above (the middle image). I really enjoyed drawing this. I have a passion for drawing and thought what better way to start working through inspirations ready for third year.

The image at the top is another one of my drawings, again freehand. After being inspired by Barker's illustrations I wanted to draw my own flower and picked the lily which is my favorite and also coincidentally the flowers in my mum's vase on the dining table.

As my degree specifies in moving image I obviously took this into account. The image I drew situated above in the middle i imagined the fairy walking up and down the stem, fluttering her wings. If i were to create this I would make it so the movements were subtle yet effective to reflect the delicacy and fragility of my style of drawing.

I would imagine when the majority think of fairies they relate them to children as when their young they have a sense of belief. Though my piece I wouldn't aim for children I think my drawings have a more 'grown-up' feel. So it had me thinking I love fashion and more and more fashion designers these days are taking the next step into the digital World. My short of fairies could promote clothing collections as the ideas that revolve around fairies is all about believing (Peter Pan, clap if you believe in fairies). So the end title of my short could be 'seeing is believing' to represent the clothing as these clothes are so breathtaking you have to see it to believe it.

Inspirational tunes which is SOLANGE

Many people in the UK haven't heard of the singer who is Solange (Beyonce Knowles sister) she is less commercial than her sister and think her songs say more which is probably why as the World has become so fickle. Her beats are fresh and soulful and relaxing. Many of her songs could match a summers day. They are inspirational which is why she stands on my blog!

Glen Keane part 2

The image just above is called the swing by Jean Honore Fragonard painted in the 1700s. The image above that one is a concept piece for Disney's Rapunzel which is not to ht our screens till early 2011. Though it is obvious the pieces are very alike and Glen Keane I suppose used the Swing as an influence and inspiration for the classical story Rapunzel. I love that his inspiration came from a fine art painting.
